LINDSBORG — A 4-year-old dog who escaped at a Kansas rest stop while en route to his new adoptive home in Seattle has been found after three months. The Salina Journal reports that Domino is a black-and-white Border Collie-Labrador mix who was saved from a high-kill shelter in Texas. Domino was eventually adopted by Katie Aretz, a Seattle resident who found him online. But on his way to Aretz, Domino escaped from his crate Aug. 3 at a rest stop in Lindsborg and was missing for several months. A St. Marys man was injured in a plane crash in Pottawatomie county late Sunday morning. William Linn, 71, was piloting a T-Bird 2 fixed wing aircraft, which was enroute to Lyndon near Pomona Lake. The aircraft had engine problems when a propeller broke, losing power and crashing before reaching the airfield. Linn was taken to Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center and a passenger, Alan Drennon, 64, of Topeka, was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka. The accident was reported just a few minutes before noon 500 yards Southwest of 5330 Sumner Court in northeast Pottawatomie County.
Updated: Sunday, 1:31 p.m. A Junction City man is in the Riley County Jail for the suspected theft of a police car. Anthony Kenneth Johnson, 32, was taken into custody by the Riley County Police Department at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. According to the RCPD, officers were conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of 5th and Yuma in Manhattan Friday at approximately 6:40 p.m. when multiple people in the stopped car fled. Kansas State’s first second-half comeback win since 2015 didn’t come a moment too soon. With bowl eligibility in question and trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter, the outlook was bleak for the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Texas Tech. WICHITA — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating a fire at a Wichita restaurant run by a Middle Eastern family. The Petra Mediterranean Restaurant was destroyed Wednesday and its owners say the fire might have been a hate crime. The words “Go back” were painted on a storage unit behind the restaurant. The Wichita Eagle reports the FBI, which investigates hate crimes, has been notified. The ATF says it is trying to determine if the FBI should be more involved in the investigation. TOPEKA — Former Pittsburg entrepreneur Gene Bicknell is suing Kansas over a $42 million tax bill stemming from the sale of hundreds of Pizza Hut franchises. The lawsuit filed Wednesday is the latest twist in a long-running dispute between the state and Bicknell, who once owned the most Pizza Hut franchises in the country. The Kansas Department of Revenue audited his tax returns from 2005 to 2008 and ordered him to pay $42 million in taxes on the sale of the franchises.
