WESTFALL, Kan. (AP) A man has been charged with intentional second-degree murder in the death of another man at a farmhouse in southeastern Lincoln County. Lincoln County Sheriff Mike Weigel said Tuesday that 36-year-old Joseph Schultz was arrested in the death of 33-year-old Kevin Kubick. Schultz has asked to be appointed an attorney. The Salina Journal reports that Lincoln County deputies were sent to the farmhouse 1 .5 miles southwest of Westfall at 1:45 a.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call from a woman. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Authorities have arrested a Kansas man in the killing of his wife in northeast Kansas. Jackson County sheriff Tim Morse said in a news release that the 66-year-old man was arrested Tuesday. The Topeka Capital-Journal (http://bit.ly/1pg50BP) reports that the sheriff’s office received a 911 call in October from the couple’s home. The husband told dispatchers he had found his 61-year-old wife unresponsive. She died the next day at a Topeka hospital. Manhattan’s City Commission work session was filled with updates, Tuesday night. The commission learned of Fake Patty’s call numbers and noise complaints, as they received a quarterly update from the Riley County Police Department. A total of 361 calls were made to police during the binge drinking holiday, that saw multiple injuries and numerous intoxication induced arrests. That number ranking as the highest volume of calls seen since 2013 and rising from 300 received last year. Stanley Hoerman of Manhattan has officially joined the race for the 66th district of the State House of Representatives in Topeka. All three subjects sought following a drug raid in Riley County are in custody now. That’s according to Riley County Police Public Information Officer Matthew Droge who told KMAN early Wednesday morning the three were found in Topeka. More information will be released later in the morning. As earlier reported two other arrests had been made during that raid–with two names listed on Wednesday morning’s arrest report including Dashaun Craig Lamont Perkins, 21, and Donte Trayvon Westmoreland, 23, both of Stockton, California. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office and the St. George Police Department continue to investigate vehicle burglaries in the St.George area. These burglaries have occurred over the past several months, with the most recent reported overnight between last Friday and Saturday (March 4th and March 5th). At least 2 vehicles were entered without permission in the 12,000 block of Hillside Drive in rural St.George. The loss is reported to be under $10 at this time. “Somewhat boring, mostly flat” is the way Manhattan Finance Director Bernie Hayen describes February sales tax numbers for Manhattan. A little over a million dollars was collected this past month which is similar to last February’s numbers. Specifically $1,010,818 dollars in sales tax receipts came in last month compared to the slightly higher number of $1,028,934 in Feburary of 2015. The February numbers were quite a bit higher than January’s $888,302, bringing year to date numbers to $1,899,120 million. The February amount was $10,820 above what had been budgeted.
Riley County Police have opened an investigation into the death of a K-State professor. Police were alerted to the death in the 11000 block of Rimrock Drive, Monday morning. Upon arrival they found the body of 50-year-old Joye Gordon. Gordon was a professor of Journalism and Mass Communications at K-State. A cause of death is unknown, pending completion of an autopsy. Police do not suspect foul play.
Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for and are now investigating a report of criminal damage to property in the 500 block of N. 14th Street in Manhattan. The report was filed on March 7, 2016 at approximately 10:00 AM after an incident that is likely to have occurred the night prior. Police found that two separate vehicles one owned by Jessica Morrison, 21 and the other owned by April Garner, 23, both of Manhattan sustained damage consistent with that of a BB or pellet gun.
