The Kansas Legislature’s property tax lid has local governments wondering how to adjust for a potential funding squeeze. The Riley County Law Enforcement Agency Law Board met Thursday to discuss how the lid would impact the Riley County Police Department. The improper design of an entry way at Tuttle Creek Fire Station, has Riley county officials looking for answers. Riley County Emergency Management Director and Fire Chief, Pat Collins talked with county commissioners about the issue Thursday. The south wall of a training room, where the front entry way is located, wasn’t designed properly to show as a finished wall. County commissioners denied a change order in the matter, questioning why B&G consultants is requesting additional funds to fix the problem, when it was the result of poor design. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Boeing is suing the federal government over pollution at the company’s old aircraft plant in Wichita. A lawsuit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas seeks to recover unspecified past and future costs for cleaning up soil and groundwater contamination at the facility. The Justice Department had no immediate comment on the litigation. Boeing contends it is entitled to recover costs for pollution associated with a period when the government owned the site, as well as a time between 1940 and 1979 when the government was actively involved in manufacturing activities. A Milford man faces a rape charge following his arrest Wednesday. Dylan Evans, 22, was taken into custody by Riley County Police at approximately 12:15 PM. RCPD indicates Evans was arrested while in the 200 block of Custer Avenue at Fort Riley but Bob Everdeen with Fort Riley Public Affairs indicates he was actually taken into custody outside of Fort Riley. Evans was processed into the Riley County Jail on one count of the offense of rape and given a bond of $25,000. HAYS, Kan. (AP) Authorities have released the names of two workers who died in a sewage trench collapse in Hays. The city said that sewer line repairs were taking place in the area at the time of Tuesday’s trench collapse. The victims have been identified as 44-year-old Aaron Pfannenstiel and 66-year-old James “Jake” Jacobs, both of Hays. Another worker was injured in the collapse. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.

ALBQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) A Wamego couple who recently lost a son to a California hiking accident says their son’s ashes were stolen from a New Mexico motel parking lot. Steven and Kathy Hunt reported the theft on Monday. Authorities say 32-year-old Kyle Hunt was killed in a hiking accident two weeks ago. The couple says someone broke into their son’s car outside an Albuquerque motel and stole the ashes. The car was attached to a moving truck.
