The new IMAX theater is starting to show its footprint in downtown Manhattan. Crews were taking advantage of the above-average temperatures Saturday afternoon and working on the building, which takes place of the demolished Sears wing of the Manhattan Town Center. When Kamau Stokes went down with a painful knee injury in the first half of Saturday’s game against Ole Miss, an uneasy feeling took over Bramlage Coliseum. Frank has a history of helping out during times of tornadoes and floods, and most recently his efforts landed him in Flint, Michigan in the midst of a crisis. A rollover car accident sent a St. George woman to the hospital on Friday morning. Shortly after 11 a.m., Kelly Miller, 38, was driving northbound on McDowell Creek Road about 2.5 miles south of Manhattan. Miller’s 2002 Ford Explorer went off the roadway, and the vehicle rolled after Miller tried to overcorrect. The SUV came to rest in the west ditch. Miller was transported to Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. John Broberg, senior administrator of Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, has announced that he plans to retire after more than four decades of serving in healthcare. To ensure a smooth transition, Broberg will continue to serve at Via Christi through March while a search for his successor is underway. Fort Riley has informed KMAN that a 1st Infantry Division soldier with the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, died Thursday in Al Asad Airbase, Iraq, of non-combat-related injuries. The soldier is identified as Sgt. Joseph F. Stifter, 30, of Glendale, Cali. He was a field artillery cannon crewmember. “Sgt. Stifter was an exceptional soldier and leader in our battalion,” said Col. Miles Brown, commander of the 2nd ABCT. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of a member of the ‘Dagger’ family. Kansas State University has confirmed one student case of mumps. The university is directly notifying anyone who may have been in close contact with the student. The university’s Lafene Health Center is working with the Riley County Health Department and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to provide information to the Manhattan campus and surrounding community about the symptoms of mumps, how it is transmitted and how to prevent the spread of this infection. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is involved in a death investigation. Deputies were summoned to a residence in the 200 block of Cochrun Street in  Westmoreland just after 9:46 p.m. Thursday. As a result of this call a death investigation is being conducted. A 44-year-old male of the residence was deceased, and Sheriff Greg Riat indicates no foul play is suspected at this time.

The trial of a Manhattan man facing three counts of aggravated criminal sodomy charges has been delayed and motions from the state were granted during a hearing in Riley County District court Friday. Jase Stanton was present for the hearing with an April sixth through eighth trial now set for the case. Detective Brian Johnson with the Riley County Police Department took the stand during the motions hearing, testifying as to advising Stanton of his Miranda rights prior to speaking with him at the police department. [Courtesy of the Army Times] Police have dropped all charges against the 25 soldiers from Fort Riley, Kansas, who were arrested earlier this month at a house party. The soldiers, who had faced drug and alcohol-related charges, still could be disciplined by their commanders. “From our understanding, all charges have been dropped by police,” said Master Sgt.
