(AP) Three men accused of plotting to target Somali immigrants in a diverse western Kansas community, including a former Manhattan man, are to make their first federal court appearances. Gavin Wayne Wright who lived in Manhattan several years ago, as well as Curtis Wayne Allen and Patrick Eugene Stein are charged in a complaint unsealed Friday with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction. People young and old had a chance to let their childlike curiosity shine through at Sunday afternoon’s open house at the Manhattan Fire Station. A crowd of families and community firefighters intermingled as Manhattan Fire Department put their equipment and skills on display. This marks the sixth year MFD has held such an event, and Captain Micah Hydeman indicated planning and coordinating such a large day has become a routine. Some streets around the Kansas Statehouse are closed after a suspicious package was found on the lawn on the southwest side of the building. Capt. Andy Dean says the Capitol remains open Friday amid the investigation. Dean is the supervisor of the Capitol Police division within the Kansas Highway Patrol. He says the investigation began after a man walked came into the police department around 6:30 a.m. Friday and reported that another person had left the package on the Capitol grounds. Manhattan Broadcasting Company and Rocking M Media announced Friday their formal filing with the Federal Communications Commission to transfer ownership of KBLS-FM 102.5 from Rocking M Media to Manhattan Broadcasting Company. Rocking M had previously announced the agreement to acquire KBLS-FM from Alpha Media as part of a five station agreement on Wednesday October 12th.
