As KMAN reported earlier Thursday, Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Jonathan A. Turner, 25, of Portsmouth VA on a Riley County District Court Warrant for one count of Rape and six counts of Aggravated Criminal Sodomy with a child. Turner’s bond was set at $250,000 by the district court. Turner is currently confined at the Riley County Detention Center. Riley County Attorney Barry Wilkerson told KMAN late in the day the alleged victim was under 14 years of age and the crimes reportedly occurred in 2013 in Riley County. A former Manhattan City Attorney was granted a motion to continue in a case involving charges of distributing child pornography. Bill Raymond had been set for a status conference Wednesday in U-S District Court in Wichita, with a jury trial December 15th. But that was continued Wednesday, with the jury trial now set for January 26th and status conference for January 13th. Raymond, who is from Andover, was indicted by a federal grand jury September 30th for three counts of distributing child pornography and one count of possession. Forty distinguished professors from Kansas State University have came together to send a message to Topeka that they have serious concerns about a 2012 state law that removed Kansas colleges’ exemption from law that permits the carrying of firearms in all public places. Professors contend that the law, which was scheduled to affect universities on July, 1, 2017, brings more harm than good. TOPEKA KAN. – A Junction City man was sentenced Wednesday to life in federal prison for murdering a woman to keep her from giving information to federal law enforcement officers about his involvement in drug trafficking, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.
