WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Wichita man has been charged with abducting a 15-year-old boy and shocking him with jumper cables to get information about a robbery. The Wichita Eagle reports that 58-year-old Robert McDowell was charged Tuesday with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and criminal threat. It wasn’t immediately known whether he had an attorney. Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza says a gun was placed against the boy’s back early Sunday as he was walking. EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) Two candidates for the Emporia State University presidency are scheduled to visit its eastern Kansas campus next week. The presidential search committee announced the visits Tuesday but declined to name the finalists, saying they’ll be disclosed the day before they arrive. The first candidate will visit Oct. 6 and 7. The other will visit Oct. 8 and 9. The state Board of Regents will interview the candidates after their visits and make the final selection. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Parole has been revoked for one of two men convicted in the 1980 Topeka killings of a Kansas woman and her young son. Kansas Department of Corrections spokesman Adam Pfannenstiel said Tuesday that the Kansas Prisoner Review Board revoked Hobbs’ parole after concluding he violated its conditions when he possessed and tested positive for methamphetamines. A Rossville man faces an October fifth sentencing in Riley County District Court for vehicular homicide, after reportedly entering a plea of no contest.  Derik Kesler, 33, had been slated for a September 22nd trial. A preliminary hearing had been held in early August, with testimony from crime scene investigators, including one RCPD official who reported Kesler was “visibly shaken” and overcome with emotional distress during a later interview at the police station. Manhattan bicyclist Mark Jilka, 49,  suffered fatal injuries when Kesler struck him with his truck on June 26th, 2014, while traveling on Kansas Highway 177 south of Manhattan. As KMAN…

CHICAGO (AP)– Eric Hosmer and Kendrys Morales homered and Johnny Cueto threw six quality innings, but the Kansas City Royals lost to the Chicago White Sox 4-2 on Tuesday night. The Royals, who have lost four of their last five, fell behind 3-0 after Adam Eaton drove a two-run homer into the bullpen in right field off Cueto (10-13) in the fifth inning. A large natural gas line was ruptured shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 916 Pottawatomie Street. Residents were asked to stay away from the area and those living within a quarter mile and were asked to evacuate the area until further advised. Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Kansas Gas Service announced that the leak had been fixed and that residents were allowed to return to their homes. No injuries were reported.

A Wichita man has entered a no contest plea in Pottawatomie County to vehicle burglary and felony theft.  James Shirley, 21, entered the plea Tuesday in Pottawatomie County District Court in connection with a stolen vehicle case reported near St. George earlier this month, which resulted in a law enforcement chase. Sentencing has been set for October 16th. Shirley’s co-defendant, Dalton Flax, 19, also has pled to the same charges and his sentencing date is the same as Shirley’s.
