Riley County Community Corrections will be partnering up with Pawnee Mental Health Services to help train the Riley County Police Department concerning mental health issues. Brett Brunning, the care coordinator in conjunction with Community Corrections and Pawnee Mental Health, said he plans to have training sessions later in the month to help educate jailers and police officers about how to deal with citizens suffering from mental health problems. Appointees announced Thursday for the Kansas Board of Regents and other state posts include a couple of Manhattan leaders. Dennis Mullin who is the Chair and CEO of Steel Pipe and Supply was approved by the state Senate Oversite Committee with favorable recommendation for the Board of Regents. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas lawmakers have created a committee to review school standards and funding. The K-12 Student Success Interim Study Committee created Wednesday will have 15 members from the House and Senate. The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/1Uu6xMG ) the committee will study education goals and “the best funding mechanism” for Kansas schools. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Supreme Court is launching an initiative to centralize and standardize the electronic filing and storage of documents across the state. A steering committee for the “eCourt” project was having its first meeting Thursday in Topeka. The Supreme Court established the committee in April. The project is being financed with court fees, with at least $4.1 million set aside over the next four years. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is asking a state judge to put on hold his order striking down a policy imposed on the courts to protect the judicial branch’s budget. Schmidt filed the request Thursday with Shawnee County District Judge Larry Hendricks. Hendricks on Wednesday struck down a 2014 law having district court judges instead of the Kansas Supreme Court pick chief judges in each of the state’s 31 judicial districts.
