The latest win came Thursday night when Alcides Escobar had three hits and Jeremy Guthrie pitched six effective innings as the Royals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2. With the victory, Yost surpassed Whitey Herzog as the winningest manager in franchise history with 411 wins. On Thursday, representatives of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce met with Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) in his Washington, D.C. office to discuss several federal issues. The group thanked the Congressman for his support on NBAF and detailed ongoing construction efforts. Huelskamp and the group also highlighted Fort Riley’s critical role in our national security, and the impact the base’s future has on the Manhattan community. Smoke and career aspirations were on the rise at Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters Thursday, as the department finished up its annual training of new recruits, with a series of live burns. Recruit Scott Helberg told KMAN that he and fellow recruits have been going through “a lot of school work” in addition to participating in various evolution training, which simulates real life fire emergencies.
