Riley County Clerk, Rich Vargo has provided KMAN with the Manhattan Ogden USD 383 LOB election results on Tuesday afternoon. 5,581 individuals voted yes, while 3,140 voted no. The election had a turnout of just under 36%, as there is a total of 24,539 registered voters in the district.

“We’re growing in this county and we need accountability.” Those were the words of County Appraiser Lois Schlegel while addressing Pottawatomie County Commissioners with her budget presentation. Schlegel also warned the group the state is beginning to require more of appraisers. Schlegel is also asking for a wage increase for her employees. The boys are back in town! Boys State of Kansas that is. Over 450 young men from across the state are taking part in the American Legion Boys State of Kansas Leadership Academy, being held at Kansas State University. The ALBSKLA is an interactive simulation, aiming to teach high school seniors to be the value of democracy and civic duty. Participants form mock governments and campaign for positions at various levels, getting a firsthand look at the challenges faced by those in government on a daily basis. Officers and employees of the Riley County Police Department will be on the run Thursday. The police department will join over 950 other participants from across the State of Kansas in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefiting the Special Olympics of Kansas. At 10:00 a.m. runners from the RCPD will begin a run of almost 11 miles across the Manhattan and Riley County area. The local leg of the run will begin at the Pottawatomie County/Riley County line and end at the Ogden Gates of Fort Riley. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Cities and counties in Kansas couldn’t use zoning ordinances to limit gun sales or impose special taxes on firearms under a bill state legislators have approved. The Senate passed the measure on a 35-3 vote Monday. The House approved the bill on an 81-27 vote Saturday, and it goes next to Gov. Sam Brownback for his potential signature. The measure follows up on a law enacted last year meant to nullify all city and county restrictions on the sale, possession and transportation of firearms. The Rock Creek Mustangs won their first-ever state baseball championship with a 2-0 win over Concordia to take the 4A-Division II title Monday in Topeka. Justin Reiss threw six shutout innings and also drove in one of the Mustangs two runs in the win. Shilo Schaake also had an RBI single and picked up the save by throwing the seventh inning.
