A Manhattan man was arrested on Saturday night by Riley County Police near the 3000 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. 45-year-old Damian Donlon was arrested for violating probation.  Donlon is being held without bond.

Two Kansas Department of Corrections inmates who have been serving time on convictions from the 1980’s have apparently been denied parole. Terry Kirchoff, 49, was convicted for involuntary manslaughter in 1987, as well as criminal damage to property in Geary County in 1985, and aggravated burglary and rape cases in the early 1990’s in Lyon County. Public comment sesions which included Kirchoff were held in March. However, his current status as listed by KDOC indicates his earliest possible release date is May first of 2018. The Royals game against the Chicago Cubs scheduled for Saturday evening at Wrigley Field was postponed due to rain in the Chicago area. The two teams will make up the rainout on September 28 at Wrigley Field with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Kansas City and Chicago will finish their series Sunday at Wrigley Field with first pitch set for 1:10 p.m.

The Wildcats’ effort was mainly highlighted on the track with A’Keyla Mitchell, Terrell Smith and the women’s 4×400 squad earning bids, while Alyssa Kelly and Dani Winters each punched first-career trips to NCAA Outdoors in the field. The Manhattan High boys track team was the story of the weekend in Wichita. The Indians finished in a tie for 2nd place with Lawrence Free State with 57 points. Olathe East won boys 6A with 62 points. The MHS boys got a pair of gold medals from Michael Melgares who finished at the top of the 1600 and 3200 M Run. Jackson Schroeder finished 2nd in the 3200 M and 5th in the 1600. Those two alone accounted for 32 of Manhattan’s 57 team points. Chris Martin finished in 2nd place in the 400 M dash. Children of all ages, along with parents and grandparents, showed up for the Manhattan Public Library’s summer reading kick-off Saturday. Public Relations Coordinator Danielle Schapaugh tells KMAN it’s a fun time of year for readers when they can read whatever they want. For every 10 minutes a child spends reading they get a sticker on their reading log–and once they’ve logged a certain number they get a prize. Last year more than 22-hundred children, 370 teens, and 460 adults participated in the summer reading program and together logged more than one million minutes of reading time.Hopes are for 3,000 children…
