Manhattan sales tax receipt numbers were up this last reporting period, with $917,647 collected in May, compared to $845,877 the month before. That’s also up from 2014 numbers for May of $859,419. $790,000 had been budgeted for this past month. The May numbers generally reflect April retail sales from across the community. “Virtually every sector we monitor was up compared to a year ago,” said Bernie Hayen, Manhattan Finance Director.

Additional information has been released by Riley County Police regarding a fatality accident that occurred over the weekend. George Davis, 19, of Junction City was identified as the second passenger in the vehicle accident that occurred in the 3200 block of Stagg Hill Road last Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:30 PM. Davis was transported to Via Christi Hospital by Riley County EMS for serious injury. The vehicle, a 2003 Nissan Sentra, was driven by Anthony Jones, 20, of Wamego. 2016 Bdget The Manhattan City Commission conducted a preliminary review of the 2016 Budget, Tuesday. The budget comes in at just over 138 million dollars, an increase of 4.2 million from 2015. “The large increases are coming from the General Fund at $1.7 million increased from 2015 as well as the Special Revenue Funds,” said Hillary Badger, assistant director of finance for the City of Manhattan.
