TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded the boil water advisory for the City of Leonardville located in Riley County. The advisory was issued due to a water main break. Inadequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory. Matthew Woods, 25, of Overland Park, Kansas was arrested while in the 4600 block of Eureka Drive on January 15, 2016 at approximately 2:45 PM. Woods was arrested on a warrant for unlawful use of telecommunication device (X2) and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance (X2). These offenses were listed on a warrant from Johnson County, Kansas associated with an investigation beginning in August 2014. A Riley County double murder case that had been filed with the U-S Supreme Court last September has been denied certiorari. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced in September he had filed a 94 page petition with the national court regarding Kansas v. Luis Aguirre in the 2009 murders of Tanya and Juan Maldonado. For roughly every 100 petitions for cert received by the court, only about one petition is granted. With the court denying cert in this case, the State court’s decision stands. LARNED — Internal reports show that employees at one of Kansas’ state mental hospitals have racked up significant overtime hours. The Topeka Capital-Journal obtained four weeks of overtime data for the hospital’s nursing department covering much of December. The paper says its analysis shows that in recent weeks more than half of all employees in Larned State Hospital’s nursing department have worked overtime. Hundreds of workers have accumulated more than eight hours of overtime during a single week. And some have logged more than 40 hours of overtime in that span. SALINA — A Portland, Oregon-based airline has ended service to Great Bend and Salina, effective immediately. Seaport Airlines announced Friday that it would no longer fly to the two Kansas cities and five other cities in California. The company blamed a pilot shortage for ending its service. KAKE-TV reports Salina Airport Director Tim Rogers says Seaport’s poor service has led to a drop in passengers. Rogers says Great Lakes Airlines will return to Salina, beginning April 1. A Manhattan woman was injured in a two vehicle accident on I-70 in Shawnee County Monday afternoon. Katie Joe Jarvis, 26, was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka following the accident, on I-70 eastbound, one mile east of Valencia road. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports Jarvis was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra eastbound and after changing lanes the vehicle struck the driver side door of a second vehicle.
