A preliminary hearing has been set for a 38-year-old Manhattan man facing several charges following a January sixth search in Wamego. Brian Duzan’s preliminary hearing will be January 28th in Pottawatomie County District Court. Duzan was taken into custody after a nine hour search January sixth, with police finding him in the ceiling at All American Garage Doors and Windows at 503 Lincoln, where the burglary occurred. His charges include aggravated burglary, possession of methamphetamine, and misdemeanor theft charges. Daniel Bigley, 20, of Manhattan was arrested on January 19, 2016 at approximately 9:00 AM as a result of a search warrant executed in the 2100 block of Sloan Street. Bigley was arrested on the offenses of distributing certain hallucinogenic, use of a telecommunication facility to facilitate a drug transaction, possession of hallucinogenic drug, and use or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. Slick roads caused several accidents across the state, but closer to home the Kansas Highway Patrol reports an injury accident in Wabaunsee county on I-70 early Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred on I-70 eastbound just east of the Riley/Wabaunsee county line. KHP indicates Latricia Rudman, 51, of Missouri was driving a 2001 Toyota 4Runner when she lost control and the vehicle went into the south ditch, up an embankment, and rolled one time, coming to rest on its wheels. The cold didn’t bother City Commissioners, as they gathered for their weekly meeting on Tuesday night. Three items made the general agenda for the week with the primary focus being Fieldhouse Development’s request for the rezoning of four residential areas in Manhattan. The development group has hopes of constructing new apartments on several recently razed lots. U.S. Congressman Tim Huelskamp opened up Tuesday afternoon’s town hall meeting in the Manhattan Public Library touting how this one — his first of 2016 — adds to the 332 he’s done as representative of Kansas’ “Big First” district. We’ve been hearing a lot lately about the state legislature’s property tax lid provision, which prohibits local municipalities from increasing property taxes above the rate of inflation without a public vote. And now it appears the Riley County Law Enforcement Agency will also be impacted.
