A cluster of storms caused problems in the Manhattan area, with flash flooding reported throughout the Manhattan area. Meteorologist Jennifer Bowen with the National Weather Service Office in Topeka tells us more:

As of 8:25 p.m. 4.25 inches of rain had fallen at the KMAN Studios on Casement road and it was still coming down. The Roundabout at Bluemont Avenue was flooded and some motorists were stranded for at least two hours, there was also a closure on Manhattan Avenue and flooding on side streets including Campus Creek Drive and Vattier. Riley County Police have issued an emergency accident reporting phase in reference to the flooding in and around Manhattan. Some areas, such as the K-State campus and Aggieville, have entirely flooded roads. Officer encourage individuals to stay of the roads if possible. Reports have been heard of power lines down and sparking in water, vehicles stuck in standing water, and possible lightning strikes near houses. One of the individuals involved in a kidnapping case late last year was sentenced in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon. “I’m just asking the court to have mercy on me”. That was a statement made by Kaywaun Washington during his sentencing in Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson’s courtroom. Washington was arrested for charges, including kidnapping, back in October of last year. Reports indicate Washington, along with other male suspects, reportedly held two women at gunpoint. A Manhattan man charged with theft and drug possession appeared in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon. Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson heard the status hearing in his courtroom, as Jeremy Spaur appeared in court in person. The case was moved to June 1st at 2:30 p.m., as Prosecuting State Attorney, Barry Disney stated he believes the issue could possibly be resolved in that time.
An arraignment was set for a Fort Riley soldier charged in connection with the first degree murder of a young child. Alexander McConnell appeared in Riley County District Court, alongside his attorney, Lora Ingels, Monday afternoon. Prosecuting State Attorney, Kendra Lewison indicated a plea agreement had been reached in the matter. McConnell chose to waive his right to a preliminary hearing by pleading guilty on all three charges against him. Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson accepted the plea and found McConnell guilty. Riley County Police have released names of those involved in a shooting KMAN first told you about early Sunday morning. The shooting was reported at 1:20 a.m. in the 600 block of North 12th Street. Mark Self Jr., 31, of Manhattan, Kansas was arrested after the deployment of an electronic control device, otherwise known as a TASER, while in the 1100 block of Laramie Street following a short foot pursuit.
