WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A Texas man whose identity was stolen decades ago by a convicted child sex offender can’t keep a job, pay his bills or support his children. But a case unfolding in Kansas is offering Marcus Calvillo hope of finally clearing his name, after federal prosecutors charged a Kansas inmate with assuming Calvillo’s entire persona. Calvillo had tried for years to reclaim his name when he read an Associated Press story about an ID theft case involving a Houston teacher. A Manhattan business owner is closing shop. Frank Beer, owner of the former RadioShack-turned-Gizmoe’s on 614 Fort Riley Blvd., will begin its going out of business sale effective immediately. In a press release hand-delivered to KMAN, Beer said that after the effects of RadioShack’s corporate bankruptcy, competition from the internet and negative product cycles in the consumer electronics industry, he’s been forced to make the difficult decision to discount inventory and close as soon as its sold. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson has filed for the Kansas Republican presidential caucus. The Kansas Republican Party said in a release Friday that Carson is the fourth presidential candidate to file in Kansas. Clay Barker, executive director of the Kansas Republican Party, says he has received a check for the $15,000 filing fee from Carson’s campaign.
