Three individuals appeared in Riley County District Court on Monday afternoon, one of which was charged with involuntary manslaughter. The man charged in connection with the death of a K-State student back in November of last year, appeared in Riley County District Court via web cam. As KMAN has previously reported, Gregory Melvin Haug Jr., of Olathe, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession of opiates and/or narcotics, conspiracy and obstruction of the legal process. Wamego’s USD 320 is welcoming 17 new teachers for the 2014-15 school year. At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, the respective principals introduced their staff to the Board. Central Elementary Principal Teri Dow introduced eight teachers, while West Elementary Principal Amy Flinn, Wamego Middle School Principal Viki Jennings and Wamego High School Principal Tim Winters each introduced three new teachers. A group of firefighters stormed the stairs of the Town Pavillion in Kansas City on Saturday. Manhattan Fire Department Captain Micah Hydeman says the event pays tribute to the huge amount of physical and mental valor of firefighters during 9/11. Over 300 fire fighters from all over the midwest participate in the 110 story climb at the Town Pavillion in Kansas City. Those who complete the ardous task ring a bell at the end of the event. A three-judge panel of the Kansas Court of Appeals will hear six appeals in Manhattan Tuesday, September 16th, as part of on-campus U.S. Constitution Observance Day activities. Hearings will take place in two sessions – at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. – in Forum Hall in the Kansas State University Student Union. The appeals are from Riley, Jewell, Marshall, and Saline counties. OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) Investigators believe careless disposal of smoking materials caused a condo fire that killed one man in northeast Kansas. The Overland Park Fire Department identified the victim as 74-year-old James Arthur Stoker. A neighbor in the eight-unit building called 911 around 4 a.m. Monday after waking up to the smell of smoke. Firefighters found Stoker dead in his condo. No other injuries were reported.
