(AP)– Jeremy Guthrie put his Game 7 loss to San Francisco in the World Series behind him long ago, as did his teammates, and started focusing on helping the Kansas City Royals repeat as AL champions. Guthrie threw 94 pitches in his season debut on Saturday night, allowing four runs and six hits over seven innings in a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels that extended the Royals’ season-opening winning streak to five games. “I was very proud of these guys and the way we all played straight through to the finish line last year,” Guthrie said.…
The Riley County Fire Department responded to two grass fires Friday afternoon. One burned about 60 acres along Fairview Church Road and a smaller, 15-20 acre fire burned near Top of the World Drive. According to Fire Chief, Pat Collins, two more fires blazed Friday evening as one consumed about 400 acres in the Swede Creek area, while another burned near near Baldwin Park Road. The fires did not cause significant damage, however one firefighter was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center with minor injuries.

Every spring, the Wamego Tulip Festival is held in Wamego City Park. This year’s two day event had mid-70 degree weather to contribute to a successful turnout. Children’s inflatables, a petting zoo, kid’s train rides, and live entertainment were just a few of the activities offered for the nearly 16,000 guest in attendance. Around 165 area arts and crafts vendors lined the paths within the park and were located on the tennis courts.
