KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) One of four remaining clinics that provide abortions in Kansas has closed amid a hostile political climate and financial challenges. Its outgoing manager said Monday the decision was also prompted by a “lack of gratitude” from a young generation of women who take its abortion services for granted. 29 years of service will finally come to a close for Riley County Treasurer, Eileen King, as she heads into retirement effective August 1st. During Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting, King was presented with a plaque for her service.  County Commission Chair, Robert Boyd said a few words, and reflected on how King has shaped the office into a better place. Kurt Clink of Truesdell Corp., the company doing the study,  met with the board of county commissioners on Monday to deliver a study of the bridge deck. An engineering assessment conducted by Gannett Fleming, Inc. studied whether reasonable rehabilitation options exist for the bridge deck. The deck was found to be a candidate for rehabilitation. The man charged in the death of 68 year old John Burroughs, in September of last year, appeared in court Monday afternoon for arraignment. Anthony Nichols (37) appeared in Riley County Chief Judge, Meryl Wilson’s courtroom.  Judge Wilson stated that the information alleges that Nichols did unlawfully and knowingly kill another human being with the county limits in between the 6th and 7th of September last year. Police are currently looking for an inmate from the Riley County Jail who was approved for work release and failed to return after his work shift. Officers initiated the investigation Saturday after Jason Leonard, 38, of Manhattan failed to return to the Riley County Jail. Leonard, who is serving time for a probation violation stemming from a felony burglary and misdemeanor theft case, is described as a black male standing approximately 5 feet 7 inches and weighing approximately 170 pounds.
