A city official on Thursday said plans for an $80-million project that includes a mixed-use building with a hotel/parking garage across the street are at a standstill, and the developer may be looking for new ways forward. Interim city manager Jason Hilgers at the Riley County Commission meeting spoke about the Midtown building planned for the northwest corner of 12th and Laramie streets in Aggieville. Frankfort football kicked off 2024 on Friday by showcasing its explosiveness offensively as a 44-point second quarter guided the way to a 70-34 victory over Clifton-Clyde. The first quarter saw just a narrow 6-0 lead for the Wildcats, but they clawed away with a booming performance in the second quarter. Jail captain Mark French on Monday told Riley County commissioners there are 124 inmates in the jail. In addition, there are 29 female inmates in Riley County custody, but some have gone elsewhere because the jail facility is set up for a maximum of 18 female inmates. The Riley County Police Department announced Tuesday the promotion of Erin Freidline to Assistant Director, effective January 1, 2025. Freidline will succeed Assistant Director Kurt Moldrup. Captain Freidline began her career with the Riley County Police Department in June 2000 as a Dispatcher, transitioning to a Patrol Officer in 2001. Freidline was promoted to Sergeant in 2007, overseeing both patrol and detective units. In 2013, she advanced to the rank of Lieutenant, where she led the evening patrol shift and supervised detectives, Crime Scene Investigations (CSI), and the Evidence unit. County tax payers will see a 2.856 mill levy decrease in the General Fund for 2025, which is a drop of $2,311,044 in ad valorem taxes levied. The 2025 General Fund includes a 4.5 percent cost of living raise for employees ($610,476 gross), two additional commissioner positions ($173,793 benefit wage), a Road and Bridge Mechanic position ($112,056 benefit wage), and an Assistant Road and Bridge Supervisor position ($121,327 benefit wage).
