The woman that was charged in the first degree murder case, where John Burroughs (68) of Manhattan was found dead in his residence in September of last year, was sentenced in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon. Christina Love (49) appeared in court to receive her sentence. She faces charges including obstruction and interfering with a law enforcement officer. Love first made a final statement, by saying that Burroughs was her friend for 13 years. She added, “Had I known anything was going to happen, I wouldn’t have went in the first place”. During his previous court case, he waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and Monday his jury trial was set in Riley County District Court. Garret Olson (22) was charged with involuntary manslaughter after an accident in October of last year, where Trevor Redding (17) died. Olson made a plea of not guilty to the involuntary manslaughter charge, as well as two additional charges including failure to remain at the scene of an accident. Should Riley County Police charge for working special events such as parades and races? That was the question considered by Riley County Law Board members Monday, with RCPD Assistant Director John Doehling telling the group that the 19 events this last year, amounting to 47 hours and 126 officers, added up to a lot of overtime, to the tune of $390,000. Riley County Police responded to a complaint of robbery after a man demanded money from a motel employee. Around 11 o’clock Friday evening, police responded to the 2100 block of Fort Riley Boulevard, where the Westwood Motel is located. The complaint involved an unknown suspect who entered the business’s main office and wanted money. This unknown black male is said to be around 6′ 3” and weighs approximately 210 pounds. “I’ve been here since 1994, and this is the lowest it’s ever been”. This was a statement made by Riley County Health Department Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Coordinator, during Monday’s county commission meeting. Ross was commenting on the case load numbers. A 27-year-old Fort Riley soldier is being held at the Geary County Detention Center after an incident in the 2600 block of Deerfield Boulevard Saturday evening. Junction City Police report a little after 6 p.m. JCPD was dispatched to that location in reference to the report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival it was learned the soldier, identified as Kevin S. Guiler, was in the residence threatening to harm himself with a firearm. After an approximately five and half hour standoff with ongoing negotiations, Guiler exited the residence and was taken into custody by law enforcement after a brief struggle. No injuries…

Former K-State golfer Robert Streb shot a tournament-record eight under par 64 to claim the Watson Challenge at Loch Lloyd Country Club in Belton, Missouri. Streb, who’s ranked 72nd on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Rankings, had eight birdies and no bogeys to win the three-round event by five strokes. He becomes the third man not named Tom Watson to win the eight-time major winner’s tournament, which determines the best golfer in Kansas City.
