A status hearing was held in Riley County District Court on Monday, March 23 for a Manhattan man facing 24 different charges. Jeremy Spaur appeared in person in front of Judge Meryl Wilson for the hearing, which was held following his failure to appear in court earlier this month. Spaur was initially arrested in connection with several alleged offenses, including vehicle theft, criminal damage to property, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Judge Wilson granted continuance on Spaur’s case, and set his next court appearance for Monday, April 13 at 2:30 p.m.

An arraignment for a Fort Riley soldier facing charges for first degree murder and child abuse has been postponed for an additional 30 days. As previously reported, Alexander McConnell was arrested in connection with a February 2014 incident in which he is accused of killing a five-week-old baby. An affidavit received by KMAN indicated that the infant involved in the case sustained internal bleeding, as well as a bruised lung and broken neck after being left alone with the defendent for just a few minutes. An 81-year-old Manhattan man died in a farm-related accident in Marshall County Saturday evening. Ted Samuelson was reportedly pushing brush on his family farm southeast of Frankfort at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday when a tree fell on top of him and the tractor he was on. Marshall County Sheriff Daniel Hargrave tells KMAN Samuelson was pronounced dead at the scene. The farm was located about three miles southeast of Frankfort and three miles east of K-99.

More details were released Monday regarding a rape arrest KMAN first told you about early Saturday morning. Riley County Police indicate Friday afternoon at approximately 4:00 PM Lamont Cox, 24, of Manhattan was taken into custody for rape and aggravated criminal sodomy. As earlier announced, Cox’s bond was set at $500,000. The victim in this investigation was listed as a 5-year-old female and police were told this crime occurred in March of this year.
