After a successful opening year last year, the Everybody Counts event was held again in Manhattan.  Saturday’s event took place at the Riley County Seniors Service Center, in conjunction with the Manhattan Town Center community fair. Everybody Counts aims to help the homeless and the less fortunate, by rounding up several services in one place. Area non-profit organizations and agencies offered services from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.  Free health consultations were available:  vision, dental, medical, and mental. On Friday evening, at approximately 6:52, the Riley County Police Department received an emergency call for service requesting a rescue. One 30-year-old male victim was entrapped in dirt and mud near the intersection of Scenic Drive and Fossilridge in Manhattan following a trench collapse.  The victim was a City of Manhattan employee who had been repairing a water main when the trench collapsed upon him. Manhattan Fire Department responded to the scene with three fire engines, one rescue truck, one battalion truck and 12 personnel. Detectives from the Riley County Police Department served a series of search warrants on Wednesday related to a drug investigation. Search warrants were conducted at 1521 Leavenworth Street apartment #5, 309 Kearney Street and at a storage unit located at 425 McCall Road. As a result of the search warrants approximately 14 pounds of marijuana, approximately ½ pound of methamphetamine, over 2,000 prescription pills, 5 firearms, approximately $51,000 in US Currency and two vehicles were seized. President Barack Obama says the United States must resist the urge to “overreach” abroad, as he outlined a new national security strategy Friday as detailed by Susan Rice. The strategy comes on the same day that ISIS terrorists claimed a female U.S. hostage had been killed in airstrikes conducted by planes from Jordan. Riley County Police reported that a man was trapped after a trench collapsed at a construction site Friday evening. According to Riley County Police Department officer Matt Droge says a construction worker was trapped in a trench near the Scenic drive and Fossil Ridge Intersection. Riley County Police confirmed to KMAN Friday night that the man was rescued and transported to Mercy Regional Health Center however his condition is unknown.
