A Manhattan woman made first appearance on a variety of drug-related charges in Riley County District Court Wednesday afternoon. Katherine Nguyen faces counts which include felonies of unlawful possesion of methamphetamine and Oxycontin and misdemeanor counts involving Alprazolam, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Riley County District Court Judge John Bosch granted a public defender in Nguyen’s case, with next appearance before Judge William Malcolm on March 3 at 1 p.m. Recovery of Nguyen’s phone and laptop were also discussed and Judge Bosch advised her to contact her attorney. More details have been provided regarding an arrest KMAN first told you about a few weeks ago, involving Ryan Routson,33, of Manhattan. Charges include involuntary manslaughter by DUI, aggravated battery by DUI, and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. A request from KMAN for disclosure of the warrant affidavit was granted Wednesday, indicating syringes and a few plastic baggies were recovered in or near Routson’s vehicle, shortly after the May 6th accident at the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Tuttle Terrace. A Rossville man who faces a vehicular homicide charge in Riley County made first appearance Wednesday afternoon in Riley County District Court. Derik Kesler, 32, stood silent next to his attorney as the misdemeanor vehicular homicide count was read by Judge John Bosch. Kesler was served with the warrant earlier this month, in connection with the June 2014 accident, resulting in the death of Mark Jilka, 49, of Manhattan. Wamego High Schools Girl’s Basketball coach Jim Page will be relieved of his duties at the end of the 2014-2015 season. The USD 320 Board of Education voted unanimously at their Tuesday evening meeting to terminate his contract. Board President Richard Weixelman said: “While the USD 320 Board of Education supports the suspension given by the administration, in the best interest of the basketball program, Mr. Page will be allowed to coach through the current basketball season”. The Wamego City Commission did not adopt the Contractor Licensing petition.  At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page went over the petition that was presented at the last meeting.  He instructed the Commissioners they had two options, 1. to adopt the petition as written, or 2. not to adopt and the petition would go to a public referendum.
