Manhattan high school has announced that Benji George has been named the new head boys basketball coach for the Indians. George has been involved with the MHS basketball program since 2008. He began as the freshman assistant coach up until 2011 where he then took over the role as junior varsity coach up until the start of the 2013-2014 season. George has been a biology teacher at the MHS east campus since August of 2008. With the abundance of agricultural burning this past weekend, and the smoky haze that could be seen over Manhattan and surrounding areas, the Riley County Commission discussed air quality during their Monday meeting. Emergency Management Director, Pat Collins and Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Jason Orr teamed up to provide background on controlled burnings and air quality. Emergency crews were called to Anderson Avenue west of Manhattan early Monday afternoon, to a report of a cement truck overturned just west of 62nd Avenue. According to Mat Droge, Public Information Officer for the Riley County Police Department, the driver was Lifestarred to a Topeka Hospital with serious injuries. The accident was reported at about 12:12 p.m., Traffic was blocked a short time later,with Riley County Police re-routing traffic at 60th and 69th Avenues. TOPEKA, KAN. -A Junction City man pleaded guilty Monday to a federal child pornography charge, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said. Scott Deppish, 43, Junction City, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of accessing child pornography with intent to view. In his plea, he admitted that that on Feb. 12, 2013, investigators served a search warrant and seized his desktop computer and two lose hard drives. They found images depicting prepubescent children engaged in sexual conduct. They also found images of a known victim in what is referred to as the “Abby” series, which were taken in the state of Idaho.…
The Geary County Sheriff’s office is reporting a fatal accident Saturday, involving a farm tractor rollover. Deputies responded to the 12,000 block of Humboldt Creek Road shortly after 9:30 Saturday night. The investigation revealed Larry Bliss, 77, sustained fatal injuries due to the accident. Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf tells KMAN his dispatchers got the call form the victim’s son about 9:30 pm Saturday night.
