Former Kansas State basketball star Mitch Richmond has been elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Mitch played at Kansas State from 1986-1988. During his two years at Kansas State, he averaged over 20 points per game along with six rebounds and three assists per game. Mitch was the fifth overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft and he was selected by the Golden State Warriors. Riley County Health Department Director, Brenda Nickel presented two proposals during Thursday’s county commission meeting involving department positions. The first was a request to increase the current Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator position from part time to a full time position.  Jason Orr is currently in the position and works from around 30 to a maximum of 40 hours every week. The commission unanimously approved this request. A 29-year-old Manhattan man faces several charges following an incident at 14th and Fremont Streets early Thursday morning.   Cruz Hernandez’s  arrest stemmed from a traffic stop for a traffic violation and resulted in Hernandez being confined by Riley County Police. Hernandez also had a warrant from an incident in July of 2013 listing criminal damage to property as the offense, with an attached bond of $2,000.   He was also arrested for the offenses of endangering a child, driving under the influence, and obstructing the legal process. Last month, USD 383 submitted it’s Kingdergarten Preschool Program continuation funding applications for the 2014-2015 to the Kansas Department of Education. Executive Director of Special Education/Special Services, Debora Howser presented the item, which proposed the creation of a Director of Early Education Programs position.
