TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Gov. Sam Brownback says Kansas will join Oklahoma in suing the federal government over the addition of the lesser prairie chicken to its list of threatened species. Brownback announced his state’s response Friday during a news conference. Oklahoma sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in federal court last week, challenging the process under which the federal agency was considering the listing. Tallgrass Brewing Company has made it official. While we’ve been hearing at Manhattan City commission meetings and from other sources about the company’s plans to expand, a news release from Company President Jeff Gill  indicates the company is making plans to triple its brewing capacity.   This is the brewery’s latest move in solidifying Tallgrass as a regional player in the exploding national craft beer market. Tallgrass will be acquiring an existing 60,000 square foot building in Manhattan, Kansas, which it will convert into a brewery. Unemployment numbers are unchanged for the Manhattan metropolitan area compared to the month before, according to figures just released by the Kansas Department of Labor. 5.4 percent is the unemployment rate for February, which was the same in January and a bit lower than the 5.5 percent from last February.   The metro area includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties. New K-State women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie has hired the first member of his coaching staff, and it’s a very familiar face for the veteran coach.  Mittie named former TCU associate head coach Brian Osterman to the same position at K-State.  It’s a job he held under Mittie for the last six years with the Horned Frogs. Osterman has 23 years of coaching experience, including nine as a men’s head coach at Colby Community College and Missouri State-West Plains.
