A home invasion case has led to a 73 month sentence for a Manhattan man. Levertis Horne was sentenced to the approximate six years by Judge John Bosch.with 36 months of post release supervision–and good behavior considerations to be monitored while he serves time with the Kansas Department of Corrections. The base sentence of 41 months for the aggravated battery charge is to be served consecutively with the two attempted aggravated robbery charges which drew concurrent 32 month sentences. The case involved an October 2012 case, with Horne found guilty last month in a second trial–his first trial resulted in a hung jury. …
Ralph C. Richardson has announced his plans to step down as dean of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine no later than July 2015. He will then assume a faculty position. Richardson became the college’s 11th dean in summer 1998 after serving as the head of the clinical sciences department at Purdue University. Richardson received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University in 1970, completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Purdue in 1973, a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Missouri in 1975, and a training program in…

The search for survivors of a deadly Washington state mudslide grew to include scores of people who were still unaccounted for as the death toll rose to at least 14.
While numerous accidents were reported in the Riley county area Monday due to snowy, slick conditions, the Kansas Highway Patrol only reports one injury accident, on highway 77 just south of Randolph. Bradi Jensen, 21, of Wamego and Calvin Shaneyfelt, 24, of Albuquerque,New Mexico were both taken to Mercy Regional Health Center following the two vehicle accident. Jensen is still listed as a patient at Mercy but Shaneyfelt is not. Jensen was driving a 2002 Honda southbound, with Shaneyfelt driving a 1996 Subaru northbound, when Shaneyfelt lost control and spun his vehicle into Jensen’s Honda. Both were wearing seatbelts. …
