The Kansas State Men’s Basketball team will play in the NCAA Tournament for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year and sixth time in the last seven years. The Wildcats will be the number nine seed in the Midwest Regional and will face number eight seed Kentucky on Friday in St. Louis. A victory over Kentucky sets up a potential third round match up with top seed Wichita State. K-State made its lone NCAA Championship Game appearance against Kentucky in 1951 with UK prevailing 68-58. ANTHONY, Kan. (AP) The U.S. Geological Survey reports an earthquake shook southern Kansas. The earthquake happened at 3:46 a.m. Sunday and measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was reported eight miles east-northeast of Anthony in Harper County. It was at least the second earthquake in a week in the area. On Wednesday, a quake rated 3.4 on the Richter scale was recorded 14 miles east-northeast of Anthony. Gov. A motorcycle accident on Saturday lands a Fort Riley man in the hospital.   Jess Lemon (22), of Hays, was traveling eastbound on I-70 near Chapman when he rearended the motorcycle in front of him, causing James Wilson Jr (49), of Fort Riley, to be ejected from the bike.   Wilson was taken to Salina Regional for injuries.   According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Wilson was not wearing a helmet.

Update: At about 1:30 pm on Sunday, word was released that eastbound I-70 was back up and running after a semi rollover caused significant delays. Because of the accident, traffic was diverted from I-70 onto K-99 north to U 24 east onto 75.

With a 22-2 record and yet another trip to the 3A state tournament, it was a season to remember for the Riley County girls basketball team. The Falcons placed four players on the all-TVL first team with seniors Taylor Oliver, Katelyn Thomson, Madison Vargo and Makayla Vargo. Fellow senior Heidi Prockish received honorable mention. Rock Creek had two girls named all-Mid-East League, Morgan Feldkamp on the first team, and Sarah Altenhofen with honorable mention. The magical run for the Wamego High School Girls Basketball team the last two seasons came to a heartbreaking end Saturday at the Bicentennial Center in Salina as the Lady Raiders fell to Bishop Miege 57-41 in the Class 4A Division I Championship Game. Santigate and Mitch Meyer had three hits apiece while Landon Busch and four other pitchers limited Northern Colorado to four hits as Kansas State extended its winning streak to 10 games with an 11-0 victory over the Bears in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday evening at Tointon Family Stadium.
