A total of five bids were submitted to the Riley County Commission for herbicides for the noxious weed department.  Commissioner, Dave Lewis opened each bid individually and read them aloud. The five companies to submit bids were: Red River Specialties of Augusta, Van Diest Supply Company of Lindsborg, CPS of Castle Rock, CO, Helena Chemical Company of Shawnee, Sims Fertilizer and Chemical of Osborne. Each company submitted bids for different herbicides, including 2, 4-D LV Ester and 2,4-D Amine. The reigning Big 12 Conference player of the year, K-State senior Ross Kivett, has received his first honor from the league in 2014.  Kivett was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in his career after going 6 for 12 with 3 RBI over the weekend in Abilene, Texas during two wins over Grand Canyon and another over Missouri State.  The Broadview Heights, Ohio native had a hit and RBI in each game and a season high three base knocks against the Bears.  Kivett was especially strong with runners in scoring position, where he went 4-for-5 (.800)…

Mercy Regional Health Center has fully joined Via Christi Health under a transfer agreement between the Memorial Hospital Association (MHA) and Via Christi Health. Mercy Regional Health Center was formed in 1996 when The Saint Mary Hospital and Memorial Hospital were combined. Since then, Via Christi and the MHA have had a joint 50-50 ownership of Mercy, with Via Christi providing management services. Under the agreement announced Friday, the MHA transferred its ownership of Mercy to Via Christi Health. The Baseball game between Kansas State and Abilene Christian scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Abilene, Texas has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The game will not be made up. K-State had moved this weekend’s games to the Texas city after the series against Milwaukee scheduled for Tointon Family Stadium this weekend had been cancelled due to wintry weather. Two Manhattan High wrestlers brought home some hardware from the 6A state tournament on Saturday afternoon at Hartman Arena in Wichita. Kian Clemens won the title in the 132 lb. weight class while Austin Chauncey won state in the 160 lb. class. The Tribe finished 9th at this year’s Class 6A tournament, just ahead of Junction City, who came in 11th.  St. James Academy won the state meet, easily outpacing 2nd place Garden City. After a rough season-opening trip to the West Coast that saw them lose seven out of eight games, the defending Big 12 Champion Kansas State Baseball team seems to have found its game in the Lone Star State. After their home-opening series at Tointon Family Stadium scheduled for this weekend was cancelled due to inclement weather, the Bat Cats headed south to Abilene, Texas for four games in a three-day period.
