For the past several years, Columbus Day has been utilized for a mandatory Riley County staff training day.  This year’s training was held at the usual location, the Farm Bureau building, but focused on a new topic. Riley County Police reported Monday the arrest Jamal Grant, 23, of Colorado Springs Saturday afternoon for rape and aggravated sexual battery. Grant’s arrest reportedly stemmed from a June 15th, 2012 case in Riley County. Grant’s bond was set at $50,000. ### Riley County Police are investigating a rape case reported Sunday morning at 10:30.  A 20-year-old female told police she was a victim of a rape that had occurred during the early morning hours within the City of Manhattan. A third aggravated robbery/aggravated kidnapping arrest has been made by Riley County Police. Tuesday morning’s RCPD arrest report indicates Rasheem Wilson, 26, of Manhattan was taken into custody at 12:30 Monday afternoon.Wilson’s charges include aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, and kidnapping, with bond set at $150,000. A Riley County Police twitter post Monday evening indicated a third arrest had been made in connection with the robbery in the 1300 block of Flint Hills Place last week. MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) Kansas State University says it will not renew the contract of a professor who conducted controversial research on grassland burning. Research associate Gene Towne says he believes his 26-year career will end Oct. 31 because he suggested in a published article that ranchers could burn grassland at times other than April. For years, the university has said spring, especially late April, was the best time for grassland burning to revive the prairie.
