A new bridge in southeast Pottawatomie County will open, after the project was completed sooner than expected. Wednesday, the new U.S. 24 bridge, located over the Deep Creek drainage area near Belvue, will open to unrestricted traffic. The new bridge structure has been completed and crews will shift traffic from the shoofly detour, back on to the newly completed bridge this afternoon. The Kansas Department of Transportation mentioned in their press release that they are thankful for Ebert Construction Company and the KDOT construction crews’ hard work in completing this project a month ahead of schedule. Updated: 9-29 The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for the Riverchase Mobile Home Park public water supply located in Manhattan and Riley County. KDHE officials issued the advisory because of a loss of pressure. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure. The First Tee of Manhattan is sending Drew Casper and Pierson McAtee to compete in the 2014 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event that will be held September 26-28 and televised internationally on Golf Channel. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is seeking dismissal of a lawsuit by the state’s largest teachers’ union over a new law ending guaranteed tenure in public schools. Schmidt filed his request Monday in Shawnee County District Court in response to the lawsuit filed in August by the Kansas National Education Association. The attorney general contends the union has no standing to sue over the tenure law because it is not directly harmed. He also argues the union can’t show that any individual has been harmed since the law took effect in July. The union declined to comment.…
