KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) Kansas City, Kan., firefighters found a body while fighting a blaze at a home in the city. The fire was reported about 2 a.m. Monday. The woman’s body was found inside. Police said in a news release that they are investigating the death as a homicide. Police spokesman Officer Tom Tomasic said the home was vacant and it’s unclear why the woman was inside the structure. The name of the victim was not released.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A 19-year-old woman charged with killing a Lawrence businessman is scheduled to have her first appearance in a northeast Kansas courtroom. Monday afternoon’s hearing for Sarah Brooke Gonzales McLinn is in Douglas County District Court before District Judge Paula Martin. McLinn is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Harold Sasko, 52. Sasko owned pizza restaurants in Lawrence and Topeka. McLinn was an employee, and Sasko’s relatives have said he let her move into his home while she was having personal problems. She was arrested in Florida but declined to fight extradition. ROELAND PARK, Kan. (AP) Law enforcement officers are investigating after a decomposed body was found in a wooded area of a Kansas City suburb. The body was found Sunday evening in Roeland Park, Kan. Police say it was so badly decomposed that detectives were not able to determine the race, gender or age of the deceased. Police took the body to the Johnson County Crime lab for further investigation.

Progress continues to be made on the possibility of adding a public building commission to Riley County.  This was a briefly discussed item during Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting, but the commissioners mentioned they need to wait for the planning board to decide on the matter during their upcoming meeting. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) The University of Kansas Spencer Museum of Art says its director is now an endowed position, thanks to a recent contribution from longtime employee. Museum officials say the gift from Marilyn Stokstad will enable it to retain its current director and attract a well-qualified director in the future. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Stoksdad began working at the museum in 1958 and was director from 1961 to 1968. She declined to release the amount of the gift. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Insurance Department says it needs to raise fees on insurance companies because its long-term cash flow is uncertain. The department says its regulatory fund is depleted because legislators and Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration has repeatedly used the money for other purposes. Zachary Anshutz, assistant commissioner of insurance, says the regulatory fund is likely to be down to $200,000 in December, if revenues don’t improve. Judge Patrick McAnany is set to testify Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee as it considers several bills to improve efficiencies in the court system, with a goal of closing a projected $8.25 million shortfall in the judicial budget for next year. OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)   Oklahoma State freshman guard Stevie Clark was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of outraging public decency, a spokesman for the Stillwater jail said. Clark was arrested at 12:46 a.m. and has since been released from custody. Clark also was arrested on Jan. 1.  An Edmond police spokesman said Clark was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for a seatbelt violation.  Police discovered marijuana in the vehicle and arrested Clark and the driver on possession of marijuana complaints.  Clark, who is averaging 5.3 points and 2.7 assists per game for the Cowboys, already…
