(AP) The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee says as hard as the GOP is working to win Republican control of the U.S. Senate, Kansas can’t be the place that fails the party. Sen. MANHATTAN — Partnering firms of Workshop Architects Inc. and Bowman Bowman Novick Inc. have been selected to design the final plans for the K-State Student Union renovation at Kansas State University. The firms are expected to begin planning phases on campus later in September. The selection means the firms will continue their work on the Union project. They were selected in fall 2013 to develop a comprehensive architectural building program, conceptual design and phasing and sequencing recommendations. An Ogden man has been bound over on a number of robbery and burglary charges, following a preliminary hearing in Riley County District Court Friday morning.  Timothy Holmes, 43, is now set for a September 15th arraignment.   Holmes was arrested after an incident in Ogden last July, in which a man was stabbed. Another defendant,  Johnny Cossey,38, also of Ogden, faces attempted first degree murder from that aspect of the case.   Holmes’ charges include two counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and aggravated intimidation of a witness and/or victim.

The Riley County Police Department announced live on KMAN at 7:30 Friday morning, the launch of an online crime reporting service to community members of Manhattan and Riley County. This announcement comes on the one year anniversary of the department’s newly launched website (www.RileyCountyPolice.org). Online Crime Reporting was tested by the department over the past several months and with this launch the department stands by this efficient form of reporting to police. Riley County Police made several drug related arrests early Friday morning,  at approximately 2:30 AM.   Damon Brown, 39, of Junction City was arrested in the 400 block of Pierre Street for sale of methamphetamine, use of a communication device to facilitate drug transactions, conspiracy to sell methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of methamphetamine. Brown’s bond was set at $7,000.   Also arrested as a result of this investigation was Stacey Stoddard, 43,  of Manhattan.
