Devyani Khobragade was allowed to fly home to India on Friday after being indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury. In retaliation to the diplomatic dispute touched off by the arrest and strip search of Khobragade in New York, India has asked the United States on Friday to withdraw a diplomat from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.

A re-scheduled preliminary hearing was held Friday in Riley County District Court for two local residents charged with the first degree murder of  John Burroughs (68), also of Manhattan. Burroughs was found dead in his residence on Farm Bureau Road in the afternoon of September 8th, 2013. Riley County Police arrested Christina Love, 49, and James McKenith, 33 three days later and charged them with first degree murder. Love and McKenith were originally scheduled to appear on November 22nd in Judge William Malcolm’s court room. However, the hearing was rescheduled and moved to Judge Meryl Wilson’s court room to accommodate both love and McKenith.…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom says federal prosecutors collected about $12.1 million in criminal and civil legal actions last year. Grissom says in a news release that $6.1 million of the total came from criminal cases and $6 million from civil actions. His office also worked with other U.S. attorney’s offices in other states and the Justice Department to collect an additional $2.8 million in cases pursued jointly in civil actions. Among the Kansas collections were environmental violation penalties of $1.7 million from Coffeyville Resources Refining and Marketing and $1.6 million from Ash Grove Cement. More than $853,000…

Kansas State University President Kirk Schulz says a change in the social media policy may be coming soon from the Kansas Board of Regents.  According to Schulz personal conversations with regents has led him to believe they recognize the recent social media policy update was a bit too draconian, and led to a chilling effect on community engagement. SOLOMON, Kan. (AP) Investigators in north-central Kansas are still trying to identify a body found earlier this week in the ruins of a burned-out home. The Salina Journal reports that Solomon Fire Chief Randy Paden says an autopsy will be needed to make a positive identification. The cause of the fire that broke out around 4 a.m. Tuesday is also under investigation. Neighbors said the house was engulfed in flames as the Solomon volunteer fire department arrived. Last night the MHS wrestling team was on the road at the Clay Center Dual. The Tribe was dominate and came out of the dual victorious by a final score of 64-6. Not only did the Tribe improve to 9-5 this season, it was also head coach Robert Gonzales’ 100th dual win at MHS. Prior to the start of this season Coach Gonzales in eight seasons has compiled a record of 91-29 in dual competition. Wamego’s Kaylee Page and Manhattan’s Darby Price and Par McNair are among eight Kansas girls basketball players to earn a McDonald’s All-American nomination. Page has signed to play college basketball next season at Nebraska and has led the Red Raiders to a 6-0 start this year after helping the Lady Raiders win the 4A state tournament a season ago.
