A fire at the Pizza Hut at 523 Riley Avenue in Ogden caused approximately $1,000.00 damage Thursday afternoon. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins tells KMAN that the initial report of the structure fire came in at around 2 p.m. Collins said a total of 18 firefighters responded to the scene. Ogden firefighters were the first to arrive and immediately knocked down the fire which was said to have begun in the attic of the restaurant. Previously, two companies submitted bids for new emergency service radios.  Riley County Commissioners approved the bids to move forward for staff evaluation and recommendation. After the bid opening, there appeared to be some concern with emails regarding the bids and what the county really needed.  The vendors did not seem to agree on what they thought the county was looking for in radios. Both vendors revisited the commission at a later date to express their concerns.  The commission asked that the vendors come back so that they would have more time to discuss the matter. The Riley County Police Department responded to a complaint of burglary in the 3000 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. on Wednesday for an incident that occurred the prior night. RHP Properties LLC officials stated to police several items were taken from their office. Former Manhattan High state champion Reid Buchanan was named the Big 12 men’s cross country Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday. Buchanan qualified for nationals at KU this season, and recorded the highest finish for a Jayhawk since 2006. Buchanan also tallied a 12th-place finish at the Midwest Regional while posting a career-best 10K time of 30:43.5, all of which was done after his right shoe fell off within the first 1,000 meters of the six-mile race. EL DORADO, Kan. (AP) The driver of a school bus that was swept into a south-central Kansas creek has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges. All 10 children aboard the Douglass School District bus were rescued unharmed from Muddy Creek on Oct. 31 after climbing out through an emergency exit. The driver, Morris Peterson, 64, suffered a minor back injury and later lost his job.
