LOUIS (AP) Danny Duffy worked six innings of one-hit ball and Alex Gordon homered to start a breakout three-run seventh for the Kansas City Royals in a 6-0 victory over the suddenly punchless St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. The Royals had just two singles off Shelby Miller in a game that had been scoreless before they opened the seventh with four straight hits. A one-year-old child died in a car/pedestrian accident in Clay Center Monday night. The child has been identified as Kael Dame of Clay Center.   The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Peggy Ward, 58, of Clay Center was backed into a parking spot in the Huntress Park Ballfield Parking Lot at West Crawford.The vehicle was leaving the parking lot and struck Dame.   The accident was reported shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.

As part of the process of finding a new Commissioner of Education, Kansas State Board of Education members have been traveling throughout the state to hold focus group meetings to hear from local individuals about public education. A focus group meeting was held at the Robinson Education Center here in Manhattan Monday evening, as District Six Board Member, Deena Horst facilitated the discussion. There are a lot of folks waiting for services when it comes to Big Lakes Developmental Center’s four county area. That’s according to Executive Director Lori Feldkamp, who addressed Pottawatomie County Commissioners Monday.   Feldkamp adds she’s expecting a 10 to 15 percent increase in services. The unserved number in Big Lakes area is 71, the underserved is 68, with  144 waiting for services. In Pottawatomie County alone 41 are waiting for services.   Feldkamp says her biggest concern moving forward is the capacity to serve.
