The Wamego City Commission heard the annual reports from two entities. At Tuesday’s meeting, Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Chair Chris Hupe went over the highlights of 2013. He said the CVB had another solid year with the expansion of a local motel and overall community growth. He said Wamego may be small in population, but in the world of tourism, Wamego has become mighty. The Oz Museum had 30-thousand registered visitors, with 18-thousand out-of-state, 11-thousand within the state and over 1-thousand international visitors in 2013. The Manhattan City Commission authorized City Administration to seek a consultant to evaluate and recommend improvements to Parks and Recreation facilities around town. “City Park, Cico Park, Anneberg Park, this list includes a variety of different fields and parks around town,” said Eddie Eastes, Manhattan’s parks and recreation director. “I just want you to understand we’ll be wanting to look at a large number of sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor.” Financing the project will be a serious challenge. Riley County Commissioners also serve as the Riley County Board of Health, and held their first official meeting back in February. The board plans to hold three meetings every year. Tuesday evening was the second meeting for the board, and focused on the 2015 fiscal year budget plans. Riley County Health Department Director, Brenda Nickel began with some opening comments, and provided a few overall statistics. This year, Riley County invested $14 per resident for public health. Carlin was first elected to serve the 66th District in 2002. Two explosions ripped through a bustling bus terminal and market frequented by thousands of people in Nigeria’s central city of Jos on Tuesday afternoon, and police said there are an unknown number of casualties. The blasts could be heard miles away and clouds of black smoke rose above the city as firefighters and rescue workers struggled to reach the area as thousands of people fled.

At approximately 3:45 P.M. at the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Ehlers Road, a three-car accident occurred, causing redirection of southbound traffic by the Riley County Police Department.
