With finals week wrapping up for Kansas State University students, the Riley County Police Department has been concentrating extra effort in a few locations this month. During Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting, Assistant Police Department Director, John Doehling said traditionally around this time of the year, there is an increased number of individuals in the Pillsbury Crossing area. Many students flee to the area to drink and socialize in May. Doehling said officers have given out several alcohol violations and citations, and have experienced a few unique incidents. (Accident update from Wednesday afternoon in separate story) A 21-year-old Manhattan man was arrested early Thursday morning on a variety of charges including aggravated burglary and drug-related counts. Police arrested Drew Smading for aggravated burglary, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of MDMA, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Smading’s bond was set at $18,000. Police report they caught up with Smading after he entered the Pizza Hut on Moro Street and removed items that did not belong to him. These items included a hand cart and a keg which were both recovered. Upon Smading’s arrest for aggravated burglary, several drug…

Another guard from the junior college ranks has been added to the K-State women’s basketball roster. New Wildcat head coach Jeff Mittie signed 5-foot-8 shooting guard Deborah Meeks of three-time defending national JuCO champion Trinity Valley Community College in Fort Worth, Texas. Meeks averaged 9.6 points and 2.7 assists per game, and was named to the national all-tournament team. Meeks spent two seasons at the University of Washington before transferring to Trinity Valley. She redshirted her first year with the Huskies due to an ACL injury during her senior season of high school, and played in just two games the…
