The reported victim in this investigation is a 21-year-old female and the suspect is of similar age. This incident occurred in the city limits of Manhattan. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Wamego High School officials, on Saturday March 1st, that some students were provided marijuana during a school event in Salina. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat informed KMAN Tuesday that a Sheriff’s Office K-9 handler responded to the high school and initiated an investigation. As part of the investigation, a search warrant was conducted on March 5th in the City of Manhattan. Austin Waters, 19, formerly of Wamego, was taken into custody for illegal drug related charges. Making the official announcement Tuesday morning on KMAN’s InFocus morning show, current Riley County Commissioner Dave Lewis announced that he will run to retain his seat as County Commissioner in 2014. Lewis, a resident of Manhattan since 1991, is currently serving his first term as Riley County Commissioner. A longtime broadcaster, Lewis spent over 25 years in radio with 15 years as host of KMAN’s morning show. On the weekend of March 7, 2014 to March 9, 2014, the Riley County Police Department with assistance from the Junction City Police Department, Emporia Police Department, Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Hays Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to several calls for service in relation to the Fake Patty’s Day 2014 event.
