Community and State leaders met on Friday on Fort Riley to get a glimpse of the past, present, and future of the U.S. Army installation.  Some of the changes coming in the future include a brigade being dismantled, and troop reductions.  According to post officials by 2016 between 1,200 and 1,700 soldiers will be transitioned out of the forces on post.  The outgoing brigade will be partially absorbed by the two remaining brigades on post as new combat elements. 1st Infantry Division commander Major General Paul Funk says with new technologies in such areas as force projection, and training will…

The Kansas Water Vision Team conducted a workshop Friday at the Kansas Farm Bureau office in Manhattan. The purpose of the meeting was to identify the major issues and priorities that will be used in developing the first draft of the 50-year Water Vision plan, which Governor Brownback called for during his Water Conference last October. Three drug-related arrests have been made in Pottawatomie County, following search warrants at two different locations.     Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat has announced the arrest of Christopher Zoeller, 28, and Erica Swenson, 25, both of Wamego, and  Shannon Meires, 32,  of St. Mary’s.   Search warrants were served Thursday in the 500 block of Chestnut in Wamego, with an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine siezed. Zoeller and Swenson were arrested at that location, on several charges. Zoeller’s charges include possession with intent to distribute meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp. Swenson faces possession of meth and drug paraphernalia counts.   The…

Riley County Police are investigating a burglary in the 2600 block of Buttonwood Drive.    Monica Stoker, 34, of Manhattan reported a digital camera, two lenses, and a camera bag were taken from an unsecure vehicle that she owned.   The total estimated loss is $3,350. This burglary occurred during a short time frame Thursday afternoon and currently there have been no arrests made.  Officers continue to investigate the matter further.
