Wamego City Commissioners gave their approval for the water tower painting project.  At Tuesday’s City Commission, Merl Page, City Manager, reviewed the bids received for painting the new Water Tower, which was tabled at the last meeting for further review.  Page said three bids were received, the lowest from Maguire Iron, Inc. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota for $79,720, Caldwell Tanks Inc. of Harrodsburg, Kentucky submitted a bid for $83,000, and Classic Protective Coatings of Menomonie, Wisconsin bid was $124,800.  Commissioner Vic Enns said we should get on with the project and made a motion to accept the bid from Maguire Iron, Inc. for…

One of the most experienced coaches in Division I college basketball will become the 9th head coach of the K-State women’s basketball program. TCU head coach Jeff Mittie has been announced as the new head women’s basketball coach at Kansas State taking the place of Deb Patterson. Mittie, 47, has earned 454 wins in his 22 years of coaching with a winning percentage of .660. It has included stops at Missouri Western, Arkansas State and TCU. K-State’s new women’s basketball coach is TCU’s Jeff Mittie, the school announced today in a press release. Mittie has been at TCU for the past 15 seasons and has 454 career wins and 15 postseason appearances as a head coach. Unemployment numbers are up in the Manhattan area, with the metro area showing a 5.4 percent rate in January, compared to 4.4 percent the month before. However that number is lower than the 5.9 percent number a year ago. The Manhattan metro area includes Riley, Pottawatomie, and Geary Counties.   The city of Manhattan by itself also had a higher unemployment rate, although still a relatively low 4.1 percent. 3.3 percent was the number in December.   The Manhattan metro area’s unemployment rate, which includes Riley, Pottawatomie and Geary Counties, still compares favorably with others in the state, with 5.4 percent in…
