Starting off their meeting with a work session, the Manhattan Ogden school board had a theme of the KASB on their Wednesday agenda. The board began talking about the KASB Preliminary 2013 Legislative Positions where there was discussion of teacher negotiations and possible policy changes. The board presented their displeasure of the changes as Dave Colburn, board member, mentioned he “felt like he was being attacked”. The board did choose their Delegate representative as there was a unanimous approval to have Dave Colburn represent and have Aaron Estabrook serve as the alternate. David Welch (54) of Manhattan, reportedly left his home in a maroon Pontiac Montana van, with Kansas license plates, on the evening of September 2nd at 8:30. Police were contacted and made aware of the man’s absence, as he did not express where he was going to friends or family. After checking areas around Manhattan, they were unsuccessful in locating him. On September 3rd, police were contacted by Welch’s family and were informed that he had not returned home. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff received a report of a robbery in the 800 Willow block of St. Mary’s, at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. A Gambino’s Pizza Delivery person reported that while he was delivery a pizza he was approached by the a suspect on foot. He was ordered to put the pizza on the ground and hand over the cash. Initially, the delivery person refused, but the suspect did produce a knife and walked towards the victim, yelling at him to give him the money. Ultimately, the delivery person gave up the cash, which contained an undisclosed amount and a check. …
For the first time in a few years, the K-State men’s and women’s basketball teams will host an event next month to tip off the season called “Madness in Manhattan.” There will be a special unveiling in the Bramlage Coliseum rafters honoring K-State’s basketball heritage, along with scrimmages, a dunk contest, and skills competitions by both teams. Wildcat coaches Bruce Weber and Deb Patterson and selected players will also address the crowd. “Madness in Manhattan” will be held Friday, October 25th at 8:30pm at Bramlage Coliseum. Doors will open at 8:00pm, just after the football Homecoming parade and pep rally. Practices will get underway…
