(AP) Authorities are investigating the death of a 37-year-old inmate at the Barton County Detention Facility. Barton County Undersheriff Larry Holliday tells The Hutchinson News that the man was found dead in a one-man cell Friday evening. The man’s name was being withheld while relatives were notified. An autopsy was being conducted in Hays. Holliday says the inmate had been booked into the facility on November 15th on charges from Hoisington.

(AP) Members of the all-Republican Kansas congressional delegation and officials in the GOP-dominated state government are resisting calls to tighten access to firearms following the mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school earlier this month. So far, no prominent Kansas elected official who’s strongly supported gun rights has backed away from positions that have brought him or her support from the National Rifle Association. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Some legislative leaders, including one from Manhattan, have scheduled training to learn more about the Kansas Open Meetings Act. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the training will be held in January, about a year after dinners at the governor’s mansion led to an investigation. The investigation ended with Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor finding “technical violations” of the law but not enough to prove more substantive violations. Despite amassing 352 yards rushing and 507 yards of total offense, three turnovers did in the Kansas City Chiefs in a 20-13 loss to the playoff-bound Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  Indy clinched a playoff berth on Sunday, a year after they lost 14 games.
