TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Gov. Sam Brownback says he’s hoping Kansas will have a charity ball at the Statehouse when the building’s $332 million renovation is complete. Brownback says his office is working on plans for such an event early next year, but any discussions so far are tentative. But the governor told reporters at a tree-planting on the Statehouse grounds last week that he’s looking forward the end of the renovation. Kansas State Sophomore point guard Angel Rodriguez will be transferring to another school next season. according to a press release from the school. Rodriguez had expressed a desire to be closer to his family in his native Puerto Rico. A string of burglaries are effecting the Pottawatomie County area , specifically the rural part of Manhattan. Sometime between the overnight hours Saturday, April 20 into the early morning on Sunday, April 21, an unknown person or persons broke into several trailers along the Green Valley Drive area. Taken were construction tools and construction equipment. The total amount of loss is estimated to be over $3,000. A Manhattan man charged with the killing of a Fort Riley soldier, and the shooting of four others was in Riley County Court on Monday morning via video conference from jail. 43-year-old Mathew Wilson is charged with possible first degree murder, four counts of attempted first degree murder, and aggravated burglary. On Monday defense attorney Larry McRell, Riley County prosecutor Barry Wilkerson, and Division I court judge John F. Bosch agreed on setting Wilson’s preliminary trial to May 21st and 22nd.
