The Riley County Police Department’s current narrow banding radio system is becoming outdated. Although previous modifications were made to make the system last longer, it is believed that the system was installed in the 1980’s. Emergency Management Director, Pat Collins came before the county commission during their Monday meeting to discuss some of the problems with the system. Details have been released regarding an incident of shots being fired Sunday evening. Riley County Police told reporters on Monday that they received a report around 8:20 pm on Sunday of shots being fired at 1704 Fair Lane. Upon arrival, they made contact with Cody Turnbough (19), who told them that he had been in an altercation with an acquaintance , and he had been shot in one knee by this acquaintance . K-State coach Bill Snyder is one of five finalists for the Bobby Bowden National Collegiate Coach of the Year Award. Voting by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association will start after the BCS title game on Monday night. Bowden will present the award to the winner on March 3rd in Birmingham, AL. A lifetime acheivement award will also be handed out. Snyder is joined as a finalist by Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Alabama’s Nick Saban and Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin. For the third time already this season, K-State senior guard Rodney McGruder has been named the Big 12 player of the week. McGruder scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half of the Cats’ 73-67 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday. He hit five three pointers including two in a crucial 9-1 run during the final 2:15 of the game, and grabbed five rebounds. The 625th Transportation Detachment and the 378th Movement Control team were both recognized during Saturday’s Mobilization Farewell Ceremony and Reception at Manhattan’s American Legion. Manhattan Mayor, Loren Pepperd was present at the ceremony to share a few words and stress the importance of the soldier’s mission, and the importance of the support from family members and friends.
