The jury in the capital murder trial of Luis Aguirre reached a verdict Thursday afternoon in Riley County District Court of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The jury deliberated approximately four and a half hours before reaching the decision. The other option for the jury was to give Aguirre the death penalty but they chose the life sentence instead. Aguirre was convicted last month for the murders of 18-year old Tanya Moldanado and her 13-month old son Juan in 2009. Sometime around 2:00 A.M. Thursday morning, Riley County Police received a report of a fight in progress in the Westloop Dillons parking lot. Upon arrival, police found Chrispino Marino-Santos (25) on the ground bleeding from the face. With Santos, was Mranon Merino-Solano (21) who was on his feet, but complaining of pain in his face. Both were transported by Riley County Police to Mercy Regional where they were treated and released. Police found two suspects a short distance away from the scene pushing a bicycle. Members of the Geary County Sheriff’s Department made a drug-related arrest earlier this week after conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle,in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street in Junction City. Ricardo Jimenez, 25, of Junction City faces seven charges including possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of A narcotic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a revoked driver’s license. There was also a seizure of marijuana, believed to be for sale, and miscellaneous currency from the vehicle. Sam Brownback’s office says the disaster designation, effective Thursday, makes agricultural producers eligible for federal disaster assistance for lost crops and livestock. RUSSELL, Kan. (AP) The central Kansas town of Russell is taking steps to conserve water. The Russell City Council has voted in special session to approve a resolution moving the city into Stage 3 water conservation, a step away from its most restrictive stage.
