By Emma Loura Assistant superintendent Nathan Downs on Wednesday reported the district’s total enrollment as of Monday was 6,567 students. “Since our Sept. 20 count, we’ve had 272 new enrollments, 219 exits, 51 transfers within the district,” Downs said. “And then we approved 39 mid-year graduates. Our overall increase is 17 students. However, if you factor in the mid-year graduates and so on and so forth, we’re continuing to thrive. At Tuesday’s work session, Manhattan city commissioners will discuss a housing rehabilitation and repair assistance program. Commissioners in October expressed interest in funding a housing rehabilitation program with the workforce housing sales tax, according to city government documents. Stephanie Peterson, director of community development, on Tuesday will give information on a possible framework for such a program and seek feedback from commissioners and the public. After the defense and prosecution rested in Jose Fuentes-Trinidad’s trial, the jury returned Thursday afternoon with a guilty verdict on all charges in Riley County District Court. Fuentes-Trinidad’s charges included aggravated kidnapping, aggravated residential burglary, two counts of criminal threat against different victims, criminal deprivation of property and two counts of domestic battery, for which he’s been convicted two or more times in the past five years.
