(AP) The Kansas City-area woman who filed a federal lawsuit over political redistricting in Kansas is asking to have more than $45,000 in legal bills covered by the state, bringing its total potential cost to more than $700,000. Robyn Renee Essex, a Republican precinct committee woman from Olathe, submitted her request to the three federal judges who heard her lawsuit and redrew the state’s political boundaries earlier this month. One last series of jumps separates K-State junior Erik Kynard from a trip to the Olympic games in London. The three-time NCAA champ in the high jump will compete in the finals on Monday night at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Kynard breezed through the prelims on Saturday night as one of only four competitors to clear all three heights without a miss. He jumped 6′ 10 3/4″, 7′ 1/2″, and 7′ 1 3/4 in his first try. SONOMA, Calif. (AP) Emporia native Clint Bowyer raced to his first victory on a road course, and first with Michael Waltrip Racing, holding off Kurt Busch at Sonoma. Bowyer dominated Sunday’s race, but defending race winner Busch was all over his bumper late. A caution with four laps remaining set up a final restart and overtime finish, and forced Bowyer to earn the victory. The fire that occurred early Saturday morning, at The Salvation Army, located at 310 Poyntz Avenue, in Manhattan, has been ruled an incendiary fire by investigators. The result of the scene examination concluded the fire originated in the middle portion of the building. Sufficient evidence was recovered during the investigation to eliminate all known potential accidental ignition sources and determine the fire was intentionally set. Fire investigators from the Manhattan Fire Department, in cooperation with the Riley County Police Department are currently working on the investigation. State regulators today revoked the license of Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus over allegations that she performed inadequate mental health exams on young patients she referred for late-term abortions. Neuhaus and other abortion-rights supporters describe the action by the State Board of Healing Arts part of ongoing efforts to limit access to abortion. Neuhaus says she will ask state courts to overturn the decision. (AP) Kansas regulators have revoked the medical license of a doctor accused of performing inadequate mental health exams on young patients she then referred to the late Dr. George Tiller for late-term abortions. The State Board of Healing Arts on Friday ratified an administrative judge’s earlier decision to revoke Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus’s license. The judge concluded in February that the Nortonville doctor’s 2003 examinations of 11 patients ages 10 to 18 were insufficient.
