(K-State Athletics) – Head coach Jerome Tang has been selected as the winner of the 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club at its annual Final Four Awards Brunch at the Ballroom at Bayou Place in Houston, Texas on Sunday (April 2). Tang was chosen for the award over a finalist list that included Purdue’s Matt Painter, Houston’s Kelvin Sampson and Marquette’s Shaka Smart. There was a crowd on the lawn of the Family and Child Resource Center in Manhattan Saturday morning. Julie Gibbs, Director of the Riley County Health Department explains. Inside the building, families could explore the services available and receive free goodies, while the Easter Bunny was outside dropping eggs and candy all over their yard. Ten-year-old Manhattan resident, Hana Alemie is one of the more than 400 residents who attended the new event. The Student Union was the hub of the annual K-State Open House, but the wonderful smell before entering the building was thanks to Thompson’s BBQ Smokehouse. Registered K-State Caterer, Ervin Thompson, was cooking up and selling his delicious food to help the community. Thompson says he decided to help the shelters after learning they are in need of baby supplies. There’s still an opportunity to help out and enjoy some great food. Officers filed a report for motor vehicle theft in the 600 block of North 9th Street in Manhattan on March 30, 2023, around 7:30 AM. Officers listed a 21-year-old male as the victim when he reported an unknown suspect took his gray 2014 Toyota Camry. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $10,000. The vehicle was later recovered. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly made a stop in Manhattan this week for the annual Kansas Governor’s Public Health Conference. Kelly, speaking at the Manhattan Conference Center Wednesday, praised the efforts of those working in the public health field throughout the pandemic and said they were invaluable contributions for the health of all Kansans. Kelly said Medicaid must be expanded in order to keep Kansas healthy. Despite previous pushback, she said she refuses to give up on this goal. Kansas State University officials say more than $1 million was raised for the university’s annual All In for K-State day of annual giving, held March 22. Proceeds will help establish educational services for students experiencing financial stress. Kansas State University’s Chief Government Relations Officer Sue Peterson is retiring next month. Peterson, who also serves as assistant to the President Richard Linton, will retire after nearly 34 years of service on April 7. Coming to K-State in 1989, Peterson has had direct responsibility for all university liaison activities with the state legislature and federal government.
