Governor Laura Kelly this week vetoed the congressional redistricting map, a move that was expected, following outcry from Democrats who argued the map took away a stronghold for the state’s lone Democrat in Congress, Rep. Sharice Davids. The map splits Wyandotte County into two separate congressional districts. It also separates the city of Lawrence from Douglas County and places urban boundaries of Lawrence into Rep. Following the recent winter storm in Kansas, the American Red Cross says blood drive cancellations as a result of the weather cost the organization at least a day’s worth of blood. They say that only compounds the existing blood shortage in the nation, which has led the Red Cross to declare its first-ever national blood crisis in January. Kansas-Oklahoma region Red Cross representatives say COVID-related blood drive cancellations in the region had already resulted in 2,100 planned donations not taking place. Manhattan has numerous blood drives planned over the next week. One is scheduled Friday at Manhattan’s Holiday Inn At…

Huninghake was released from the Leavenworth County Jail after the verdict was announced.
TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas could phase out its corporate income tax under a measure that also would expand its incentives for attracting new businesses. A House committee expects to vote Thursday on a bill authorizing hundreds of millions of dollars in incentives for billion-dollar business projects after the Senate approved the measure last week. The Legislature hopes to wrap up work on the bill Monday so the state can offer an unnamed company $1 billion or more in…
